“Blessed be the Lord, because He has heard the voice of my supplications! The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him.” Psalm 28:6–7 (NKJV)

One of the most beautiful and powerful aspects of God’s character is His mercy. He is not only strong and protective, as this psalm declares; He is also compassionate toward us in our weakness. David rejoices not just because God is mighty, but because God hears him. That is mercy in action.

Many of us have wandered off the right path. We’ve fallen short, missed the mark, and at times chosen our own way over God’s. By His standards, we could not stand on our own. Yet, instead of leaving us in that state, God responded with mercy. He sent Jesus to take our place, to redeem, restore, and bring us back to Himself.

God’s mercy is not reluctant; it is abundant. He hears your cry. He responds to your need. He becomes your strength when you are weak and your shield when you feel exposed. Mercy is the reason you are not consumed, it is the reason you are helped.

And like David, when we truly grasp His mercy, our response becomes joy, gratitude, and praise.

Ponder

  • Am I afraid of asking for God’s mercy?
  • How have I responded to God’s mercy?

Prayer
Thank You, God, for Your mercy. Thank You for hearing me even when I feel unworthy. Thank You for sending Jesus to save me and bring me back to You. Help me to trust You more, to rest in Your strength, and to live a life that responds with joy and praise. Amen.
