“Israel has sinned… They have stolen and lied and put them among their own belongings… I will be with you no more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you.” — Joshua 7:11–12

Reflection

God’s truth has a way of uncovering what we try to keep hidden. What we often treat as private or insignificant is never hidden from Him and, as seen in Joshua 7, hidden sin can carry consequences far beyond what we expect.

Achan’s secret disobedience affected not only his own life but the entire community. In the same way, when we hold on to things that dishonor God; whether pride, bitterness, greed, or lust—it quietly hinders our walk with Him. We cannot embrace truth while concealing what opposes it.

God, in His love, brings these things to light, not to condemn us, but to restore us. His desire is that we walk freely in His presence, unhindered and whole.

David understood this and prayed:

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”Psalm 139:23–24

This is the posture God invites us into surrender, not perfection. When we allow His truth to uncover what is hidden and choose to release it, we step into freedom, restoration, and deeper intimacy with Him.

Prayer
Lord, let Your truth uncover anything in me that is not pleasing to You. Search my heart and reveal what I’ve hidden. Give me the grace and courage to let it go, and lead me in Your truth. Restore me and draw me closer to You. Amen.
