God Is Our Greatest Reward
“But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave not any inheritance: the LORD God of Israel was their inheritance, as he said unto them.” — Joshua 13:33
Reflection
Before the prayers are answered, before the desires are fulfilled, can you truly say that having God is enough?
The greatest reward we could ever receive is not what God gives, but God Himself. Because if we have Him, we have everything.
When the Israelites received their inheritance, the tribe of Levi was given no land, no possessions. Instead, God Himself became their inheritance. What may seem like lack was actually the deepest blessing, to belong to God fully and to have Him as their portion.
There was a season in my life when I deeply desired a job, believing it would be my source of security. After months of waiting, I came to a place of surrender, choosing to trust God’s provision rather than hold tightly to my own expectations. In that season, I discovered something greater: time with God, growth in Him, and a deeper relationship with Him.
The job eventually came, but by then, my perspective had changed. God had already become my priority.
God spoke a similar truth to Abram:
“Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.” — Genesis 15:1
This is an invitation to desire God above all else. When He becomes our greatest reward, contentment follows. We are no longer shaken by what we lack or by what we lose, because our portion remains secure in Him.
“Whom have I in heaven but thee? And there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee… God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.” — Psalm 73:25–26
May we come to a place where God alone is enough, where our hearts are fully satisfied in Him.
Prayer
Lord, help me to desire You above all else. Teach me to find my contentment and security in You alone. Even as I wait for the things I long for, remind me that You are my greatest reward. Be my portion, now and always. Amen.
